Family Weekend is almost here, providing a chance to reunite with loved ones and show them your favorite parts of campus.

The weekend is organized by Syracuse University’s Parents Office in coordination with campus colleges and organizations. More than 1,700 families, totaling more than 4,800 people, have registered to attend. Families are traveling from 39 states and 13 countries, according to an SU News release.

“It gives students and parents a chance to reunite,” said Matt Teatzner, a sophomore political science major.

Teazner said the timing of this year’s Family Weekend works better than last year’s, when it was planned the weekend before Halloween. He added that students may be less distracted by potential outing opportunities.

Here are a few of the events scheduled for Family Weekend:

Friday

First-year center residence hall staff meet & greets
Meet the staff at the first-year dorms: Flint, Day, Brewster/Boland/Brockway, Sadler, Lawrinson and Shaw halls.
Where: First-year residence halls
When: 3 to 5 p.m.

Shabbat services and tailgate dinner
Celebrate Shabbat with a candle lighting service followed by a kosher tailgate barbecue dinner. Dinner costs one meal swipe for students. Guests can use a student’s guest swipe, cash, credit cards and SUpercard points are also accepted.
Where: Winnick Hillel Center for Jewish Life, 102 Walnut Place
When: 4 to 6 p.m.

Syracuse Orange vs. Clemson University Tigers
Cheer on SU football as it takes on Clemson University, the reigning national champions.
Where: Carrier Dome
When: 7 to 10 p.m.

Saturday

Dean’s breakfasts
Meet the dean, faculty and key staff for individual home colleges during a casual breakfast reception. Each college will have their own reception programming.

This hour-long tour is led by a member of University 100, a student ambassador organization. The tour will feature an overview of campus traditions and facilities.

Family Trivia Night presented by Orange After Dark
Work in teams of up to six to answer trivia questions from different categories. Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams. Light refreshments will be provided.
Where: Schine Student Center, Goldstein Auditorium
When: 10:30 to 11:59 p.m.

Sunday

An a capella afternoon
Enjoy performances by SU’s a capella groups.
Where: Goldstein Auditorium, Schine Student Center
When: 1 to 2 p.m.

All weekend

Goudy @ Syracuse: A Legacy by Design
This exhibit tells the story of Frederic Goudy, a designer and typographer, and his connection to Syracuse University. It features the original sketches for the 2016 Sherman typeface adopted by the university.
Where: Sixth floor of Bird Library
When: Various times between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Open skate
Family members of SU students skate free all weekend. Discounted skate rentals are available.
Where: Marilyn & Bill Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion
When: 11 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
