ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Preview

Syracuse travels to Raleigh, North Carolina, to compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Orange have participated in 11 events this season. Twenty-two runners will participate on the first day of the championships.
Shaleah Colaire and Kirstyn Schechter will complete the women’s 400m hurdles. In the ACC Outdoor Championships last year, Colaire came sixth place at 59.84.
Xayvion Perkins and Elijah Mallard will also represent Syracuse in the men’s side of 400m hurdles. Last month, Perkins and Mallard set personal bests at the UF Tom Jones Memorials, finishing in 51.60 and 51.89 seconds.
Kaleia Arrington is the only SU runner in the women’s 200m. Arrington recorded her season-best time of 24.81 in the prelim of ACC Indoor Championships.
James Nmah and Trei Thorogood are competing in the event on the men’s side. Nmah recorded his personal best (21.98) at the ACC Indoor Championships this season. Thorogood finished first at the Bobbi Palma UAlbany Spring Classic last month, earning two runner-ups at Bobcat Invitational and FSU Relays. Thorogood finished the Bobcat Invitational with a personal best of 20.69, ranking 58th nationally.
Shanley Koekemoer and Caroline Kirby will participate in the women’s 1500m. Koekemoer placed fourth with her personal record of 4:39.53. Kirby recorded her best time in the 1500m this season, finishing the Corlan Red Dragon Open in 4:37.41.
Karl Winter and Nathan Henderson are in the men’s 1500m. Winter posted a personal best of 3:39.60 at the Bryan Clay Invitational last year. Henderson ran a time of 3:40.06 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2022. Henderson also had a top-50 time of the event this season, marking 3:40.14 at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Eleven Syracuse runners will race in the 10,000m. On the women’s side, Amanda Vestri, Savannah Roark, Sophia Jacobs-Townsley, Ellie Lawler will participate. The foursome recorded PRs at the Stanford Invitational with times of 32:08.32, 32:49.76, 33:43.03 and 34:14.28. Vestri’s time ranks sixth nationally.
Paul O’Donnell leads the men’s effort in the 10,000m with a personal best of 28:42.54, ranking 44th nationally. Assaf Harari, Alex Comerford and Nathan Lawler all have PRs under 29 minutes. Silas Derfel and Jack Whetstone will also participate in the event.
Colaire and Schester will race the women’s 100m hurdles. Colaire set her new best (13.61) at Hurricane Alumni Invitational in 2021. Schester posted her best time of 14.40 at the Cortland Red Dragon Open this season.
Five runners will race in the men’s 100m hurdles. Jaheem Hayles ranks 11th nationally in the event. Nathan Smith, Anthony Vazquez, Emanuel Joseph and David Peters, who own personal bests record of 14.16, 14.20, 14.40 and 14.28.
In her second race, Arrington will take part in the 100m, the only SU runner in the event. Arrington ran a personal best of 12.04 at Texas Relays this year. Thorogood and Daijon Richards will race in the men’s 100m.
Alexander Segarra will race the men’s 800m. Segura ran a time of 1:51.22, placing fourth at the Wake Forest Invitational last month.
Syracuse will end up the second day with Kevin Robertson’s 3000m steeplechase. At the Raleigh Relays (March 23), Robertson recorded a time of 8:37.26 and ranking 11th in the nation for the event.
In the women’s 5000m, Syracuse has three runners in the top 100 nationally. Vestri, Roark and Abigail Spiers lead the runners while Ivy Gonzales and Olivia Joly will also participate. In the men’s 5000m, Noah Carey and Henderson will race. Carey holds a time of 13:38.19 (34th nationally) and Henderson’s best is 13:48.43.
Syracuse will end the meet with two relays, the male 4x100m (Joseph, Hayles, Vazquez, Thorogood) and 4x400m (Thorogood, Perkins, Nmah, Mallard).
