Three players for No. 3 Syracuse men’s lacrosse were named to the 2024 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team announced Tuesday. Defender Billy Dwan, attack Owen Hiltz and goalie Will Mark all earned their first-career All-ACC honor. The Orange had the second-fewest representatives on the all-conference list, only ahead of North Carolina, which had just one.
Dwan has put together a breakout campaign as a sophomore. He played in all 15 games in 2023, yet earned just eight starts. This year, Dwan has become a staple of SU’s back end, starting in all 15 regular-season contests and leading the Orange to a 10.33 goals allowed per game mark, nearly two fewer than last season’s 12.13 average.
He’s even proven to be an offensive weapon as a long pole, totaling seven goals, which includes a game-tying pole goal to help upset then-No. 4 Virginia on April 20 and a two-goal performance versus Hobart on March 23. In each of SU’s last three regular-season games, Dwan netted a goal.
Hiltz is also coming off of a career year. He closed the regular season with 33 goals and 21 assists, leading the Orange in goals and finishing second in points behind Joey Spallina. Hiltz has accumulated a hat trick in seven of 14 appearances and posted three-plus assists in four contests — including a career-best five assists in an eight-point performance against UVA.
Hiltz earned an ACC Offensive Player of the Week nod for his efforts in SU’s regular-season finale win over the Cavaliers. The redshirt junior attack now has career-bests in goals (33) and points (54) heading into the 2024 postseason.
Mark, in his fifth season, gave up just 10.50 goals per game and posted a save percentage of 54.7%. He made double-digit saves in eight of Syracuse’s 15 regular-season games, and totaled the eighth-most saves in the country with 185. Mark’s performance led him to be selected as a Tewaaraton Award semifinalist, joining Spallina as SU’s two nominees on the late-season list.
