Syracuse head coach Fran Brown announced Tuesday night on “The Fran Brown Show” that running back Will Nixon will not play versus No. 25 UNLV. Additionally, Brown said SU expects to “miss him for a little while.”
After transferring from Washington, Nixon has accumulated 76 rushing yards and 44 receiving yards thus far into his first season with Syracuse. He’s served primarily as LeQuint Allen Jr.’s backup but was inactive for the SU’s 26-24 loss to Stanford due to an injury.
Nixon returned to play versus Holy Cross last week, where he turned eight touches into 38 scrimmage yards. In Nixon’s absence, true freshman Yasin Willis will likely step into the backup running back role. Along with Nixon’s absence, wide receiver Zeed Haynes will miss his third straight game because of a personal matter and Marlowe Wax is still recovering from his injury that he suffered in Week 1.
