As alumni, friends and readers of The Daily Orange, when you think about Syracuse University, you think about The D.O.’s high-impact, award-winning journalism. But producing The D.O.’s work isn’t free.

On Giving Tuesday, consider donating to The D.O. as part of its 2018-19 fundraising campaign. We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit — all donations are tax deductible — and contributions directly support editorial staff projects, reporting and travel.

Like other local news organizations around the country adjusting to a changing media landscape, income from ad revenue covers only a fraction of our costs. It’s because of your help that The D.O.’s been able to produce Pacemaker-recognized coverage in 2018 and was recently named the No. 1 student newspaper in the United States by the Society of Professional Journalists. Thank you.

We’ve set a fundraising goal of $18,500 this school year: $1,500 for our ongoing archiving project, $2,500 for digital media equipment, $5,000 for off-campus sports coverage, $6,000 for staff salaries and $3,500 for web upkeep.

Last year, support from readers helped us surpass a fundraising goal of $17,000 and provide for video gear upgrades, sports travel and the hiring of a full-time archivist, among other things.

Every bit is valuable, especially as we prepare for a bowl game trip at the end of SU football’s surprising 9-3 season.

Heading into December, help The D.O. continue to produce powerful accountability reports, expand its digital team and report across the country.
